The global economy may be going into meltdown mode as governments the world over struggle to contain the spread of COVID-19, with investors feeling the brunt of a global selloff that seems to have left no asset class – including emerging market debt – unscathed as economies grind to a halt. While it is still too early to fully understand the potential human, economic, and market fallout, many emerging economies are actually ahead of the curve.
